Biography
Scott R. Maesel serves as Executive Managing Director for Sperry Van Ness, LLC, specializing in the sale and leasing of retail investment properties. With over 17 years of industry experience, Maesel has secured more than 500 transactions totaling in excess of $400 million.

Licensed in 1991, Maesel started his real estate career as a leasing agent with Glascott & Associates in Lincoln Park. While practicing real estate, he simultaneously began an entrepreneurial venture in the hospitality industry by owning a restaurant and bar in Lincoln Park for over five years. In 1998 he joined the boutique leasing firm Garrett Realty & Development, where he was director of retail sales and leasing. In 2002, Maesel co-founded the highly successful commercial division of Sussex & Reilly Real Estate.

In 2007 Maesel evolved the commercial division of Sussex & Reilly to SR Commercial, a full-service commercial real estate firm servicing Chicago-land. In 2008 Maesel merged his company with Sperry Van Ness, an International Investment Real Estate Company and quickly grew the company to 20 advisors, servicing all product types both locally and nationally.

As a Chicago entrepreneur, Maesel’s business experience and market knowledge have led him to co-host a real estate radio talk show and numerous speaking engagements. Maesel’s leadership roles have included Chairman of Commercial Forum, Board of Directors of the Chicago Association of Realtors, a board member of the Certified Commercial Investment Member Institute and a Founding Sponsor and Board of Directors of the DePaul Real Estate Center. Recently Maesel was named one of only 12 Board of Advisors nationally by Sperry Van Ness International to help grow and shape the company’s vision for the future. In 2010 Maesel was awarded NAR’s Green Designation for his commitment to green and sustainable principles in commercial real estate. With regard to his civic duties, Maesel has recently been named Park Director of the new Mary Bartelme Park in the West Loop.

Maesel’s passion for commercial real estate has led him to be an industry leader, and his leadership drives the growth and expansion of Sperry Van Ness.

Biography
Alfred Stepan is a Principal of Sperry Van Ness LLC of Chicago and serves as Managing Director. Stepan specializes in Advisor recruitment and business development. Stepan has over 8 years of experience in the commercial real estate industry.

Prior to joining Sperry Van Ness Stepan served as Development Director for Dodge Capital LLC, a Winnetka, IL based commercial real estate development firm. At Dodge his primary responsibilities included identifying development opportunities as well as performing project due-diligence and feasibility. Stepan also handled; market research, construction bidding, subcontractor management and selection, retail and office tenant identification and solicitation, permit applications, site visits and project draws. Prior to joining Dodge Capital, Stepan served as a Director of Suburban Properties for Century 21 Sussex & Reilly Commercial Properties.

Al Stepan currently resides in Kenilworth, Illinois with his wife and son. He is an active member of the International Council of Shopping Centers (ICSC).

Biography
Michael Thanasouras serves as a Managing Partner for Sperry Van Ness, LLC, specializing in the sale of retail, land and multifamily property throughout the greater Chicago, Illinois Metropolitan Area. With more than six years of experience, Thanasouras has successfully secured more than 51 transactions.

Prior to joining Sperry Van Ness, Thanasouras gained industry experience as an asset manager for Connaught Real Estate Finance, LLC, in Chicago, a leading firm providing mezzanine financing for developers. Previously, he served as chief financial officer and director of operations for Conlon & Co. in Chicago. While there Thanasouras’ responsibilities included: acquisition analysis, disposition analysis, asset management, financial management, and operations management. Prior to joining Conlon & Co., Thanasouras was a top producing agent and one of the cornerstone members in the successful launch of the company that is now Sperry Van Ness LLC.

Before entering the real estate industry Thanasouras spent 14 years in the banking industry as an assistant vice president (AVP) of Small Business Commercial Lending for LaSalle Bank N.A. (now Bank of America) As AVP, Thanasouras oversaw commercial loan business development and underwriting for 15 different branches, gaining valuable experience working in consumer lending and trust.

Thanasouras earned a Master of Business Administration from in Marketing from the Keller Graduate School of Management in Chicago and a bachelor’s degree in Finance from Eastern Illinois University in Charleston, Illinois. Thanasouras is an accomplished runner, having completed five marathons. Outside of the office, Thanasouras spends his free time with his wife and two daughters and training for the next event.

Biography

John McDermott serves as a senior vice president and National Director of Office Properties for Sperry Van Ness International  and as President of Capital Partners | SVN in Irvine, California and Chicago, Illinois. John is a member of the Executive Committee of the Sperry Van Ness Asset Recovery Team (SVNART), serves as its Southern California Regional Director and is also a member of the SVNI Advisory Board. John also serves as the Director of Sales for SVN Chicago and trains SVN Advisors nationwide. His commercial real estate experience includes the ownership and development of condominiums, mobile home parks, neighborhood anchored retail centers, recreational vehicle parks, and apartments and 39 years of real estate and finance experience.

Prior to joining Sperry Van Ness, McDermott served as a broker, manager, and executive in California, Arizona, New York, Philadelphia, and Washington D.C for Marcus & Millichap. Previously, McDermott served as the manager of nationwide lending for First Federal Savings of Arizona where he was responsible for lending, loan administration, secondary marketing, foreclosure and trustee services, REO administration, data processing and mortgage banking. In addition, McDermott was the founder and chief credit officer for a De Novo Savings and Loan in Phoenix, Arizona (Sentinel Savings).

McDermott is a member of the International Council of shopping Centers (ICSC) and the National Association of Industrial and Office Properties (NAIOP) and is member of that organization’s Editorial Board for its “Development” magazine.  McDermott earned a Bachelor of Science in real estate and finance with a minor in psychology from Arizona State University in Tempe, Arizona.

Sally Delehant serves as Director of Operations for Sperry Van Ness LLC. She earned a Bachelors degree in English at The University of Iowa and a Masters degree in Creative Writing at Saint Marys College of California.

Angela R. Corvo serves as Marketing Support for Sperry Van Ness LLC. She earned a Bachelor’s degree in Italian and Spanish at Loyola University Chicago. Prior to joining Sperry Van Ness, she attended the Chicago Kent College of Law. Angela grew up in LaGrange, Illinois and now resides in Chicago’s Loop neighborhood.
